Biography:

Denis Jacob Machado, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of Bioinformatics at UNC Charlotte, where he leads the Phyloinformatics Lab. His research integrates computational intelligence and phylogenetics to tackle pressing global health challenges through a One Health approach. The lab focuses on understanding the emergence and spread of new pathogens and improving access to biorepository data for biomedical research. Jacob Machado’s work is driven by the need to address zoonotic disease risks, environmental changes, and public health, positioning his lab at the forefront of innovative solutions for infectious disease prevention and treatment.
