Reza Mousavi

Biography: 

Reza Mousavi is an assistant professor of business information systems and operations management and an assistant professor of data science and business analytics in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. His research interests include the societal impacts of social media, economics of social media, data science and business analytics, user-generated content, and healthcare information systems. Dr. Mousavi has submissions under review at the premier IS journals. His research has also been presented at ICIS, CIST, HICSS, and AMCIS. His work won the best paper award (work-in-progress) at AMCIS 2014 and was nominated for the best paper award at HICSS 2015. Additionally, his work has been featured in The Washington Times.

Dr. Mousavi’s teaching interests include data science and business analytics, from both technical (data mining methods and big data platforms) and organizational (business value of analytics, business analytics governance) perspectives. Previously, Dr. Mousavi worked as a lead data scientist at State Farm Insurance Co., where he led a variety of data science projects. He also held managerial and research positions in higher education. He received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business. He also received his MBA from The University of Tehran and his bachelor's degree in engineering from Sharif University of Technology.
