Biography:
Aileen Benedict is a visiting lecturer and Ph.D. student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from UNC Charlotte. Her research interests span several areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), recommendation systems, data science/data mining, AI ethics and society, and computer science (CS) education research. Benedict’s dissertation focuses on developing a recommendation system for music therapy in collaboration with a music therapist. This system aims to help the therapist better understand their patients and identify the most beneficial musical attributes for achieving therapeutic goals. In addition to her dissertation work, Benedict is involved in a CS education project aimed at creating a recommendation system to support students facing challenges in their classes. This system is designed to foster a sense of belonging among students by showing them they are not alone in their struggles and providing potential solutions to their challenges.
